Laser Hair Removal

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser Hair Removal is a method of permanently removing hair from the body by destroying the hair follicles so that they don’t grow hair again. The laser gently and safely heats the dermis to a level so that the pigments of the pilous follicle are selectively impaired in its’ ability to grow hair.

How safe and effective is it?

Laser hair removal is a safe and effective method for hair removal. Clients should adhere to all precautions, especially for tanning. Effectiveness ranges from 80-90% permanent hair reduction. Laser Hair reduction is the number 1 cosmetic procedure, besides Botox, and that speaks for the satisfaction of the individuals who receive Laser Hair Removal.

Who is not suited for Laser Hair Removal?

Although some types of laser may be effective for hair removal in darker skin types, these are the most difficult clients to treat. Heat from the laser may produce hyperpigmentation (dark spots) in these people due to the amount of melanin their skin. The melanocytes react to the stimulation by producing more pigment in the skin. The laser is not effective for white, grey, or red hair. It is primarily used for darker hair.

What type of laser does Fixx Medical Spa use for hair removal?

Fixx Medical Spa utilizes the Soprano XL laser made by Alma lasers. It is unique in its effectiveness and its comfort level. Advertised as “Virtually Painless,” its specialized design leaves clients amazed at its comfort level! It safely heats the dermis to a temperature that damages the hair follicles and prevents regrowth without use of any topical analgesics. It’s also unbelievably fast and can do a whole back in 15 minutes!

What precautions are necessary?

Certain precautions will make your results more desirable: No active tanning for 1 month prior to treatment No plucking or waxing for 1 month prior to treatment or during the treatment, although you my shave. It is desirable to have no more than 1 day’s hair growth prior to the treatment. Be sure to let your doctor know if you are taking medications that make you more sensitive to the sun, as this could affect your laser hair treatment.

How many sessions are needed?

In general, using 10-12 sessions are required for best results. The laser targets hair in the “ACTIVE” growth stage. At any given time, we have approximately 20% of our hair in an active growth stage and the other 80% in a “resting” telagen phase. So we attempt at each visit to reduce the amount of hair growth by 20 -30%. The time interval between visits depends on the area of the body we are addressing. Hair growth cycles are different for various body parts and range from 1 month intervals to 2 month intervals.
